Turkey Casserole Surprise
Need A Hand
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 1 12 ounce package wide egg noodles
- 1 medium onion
- 1 pound ground turkey can substitute ground beef or ground chicken
- 2 10.7 ounce cans condensed tomato soup
- 2 Cups water
- ⅛ tsp ground black pepper
- 3 Cups grated cheddar cheese divided
- 1 can peas optional
- Cooking Spray
Instructions
To start:
- Preheat oven to 425° F.
- Fill a large pot with cold water to about 2 ½ -3 inches from the top.
- Set to boil over high heat.
- Once at a rolling boil add noodles to the pot and reduce heat to medium high.
- Cook noodles according to package directions, then drain.
- Do not rinse.
While the noodles cook:
- Spray a sauté pan with cooking spray.
- Set sauté pan over medium heat until hot.
- NOTE: Do NOT spray pan with cooking spray over an open flame.
- Add onion to hot sauté pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned.
- Add ground turkey to sauté pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned.
Prepare baking pan:
- Spray interior bottom of 13”x9” baking dish with cooking spray.
- Place cooked noodles in bottom of baking dish.
- Spread half of the cheese over the noodles and top with the browned meat.
- If using the peas, drain them then evenly spread the peas over the meat.
Next:
- Combine the tomato soup, water, and ground pepper; pour over entire pan.
- Top with other half of cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350° F.
- Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack on counter.
- Serve.
