Grandma’s Pasta Sauce
Need A Hand
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound mild Italian sausage
- 1 pound hot Italian sausage
- 1 24 ounce jar Prego "Traditional" tomato sauce
- 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 52 ounces water
Instructions
To start:
- Preheat oven to 425° F.
- Place Italian sausage links into a foil lined 13×9 pan with a little room between each link.
- Bake Italian sausage for 30 minutes or until nicely browned.
While Sausage Bakes:
- Cook ground beef in a large saucepan over medium high heat until no longer pink.
- Drain ground beef in a colander or strainer.
- Return ground beef to saucepan.
- Add garlic powder and stir.
- Note: do not discard jar and can of Prego after next step.
- Add Prego and crushed tomatoes to saucepan.
- Add water to Prego jar and swirl to get last bits of sauce out of jar.
- Add Prego water to saucepan.
- Add water to crushed tomatoes can and swirl to get last bits of sauce out of jar.
- Add crushed tomatoes water to saucepan.
- Resume cooking over medium heat.
Once Sausage is Cooked and While Sauce Cooks
- Allow sausage to cool for approximately 10 minutes on wire rack on counter.
- Stir sauce every 6-8 minutes.
Once Sausage is Cooled and While Sauce Cooks
- Using tongs and a sharp knife, chop sausage into thin rounds or halve the sausages and then slice into thin pieces, depending on your preference.
- Stir sauce every 6-8 minutes.
- Add sausage to saucepan.
- Simmer gently for 10-15 more minutes.
- Serve with pasta of your choice.
