Grandma’s Pasta Sauce

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage
  • 1 pound hot Italian sausage
  • 1 24 ounce jar Prego "Traditional" tomato sauce
  • 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 52 ounces water


  • Preheated oven to 425° F.
  • Bake sausage links in a foil lined 13”x9” pan for 30 minutes or until nicely browned.
  • Cook ground beef in a large saucepan over medium high heat until no longer pink.
  • Drain ground beef and return ground beef to saucepan.
  • Add garlic powder and stir.
  • Note: do not discard jar and can of Prego after next step.
  • Add Prego and crushed tomatoes to saucepan.
  • Add water to Prego jar and crushed tomato can, add water to saucepan.
  • Resume cooking over medium heat.
  • Cool sausage slightly then, using tongs and a sharp knife, chop sausage.
  • Keep stirring sauce somewhat frequently and add sausage to saucepan.
  • Simmer gently for 10-15 more minutes.
  • Serve with pasta of your choice.


Serving suggestions:
Freezes and reheats well.
Recipe can be halved or doubled.
